Premoclasse (CSI)

PREMOCLASSE is a socio-economic research project on building renovation jointly funded by the ANR (French national research agency) for a duration of four years (2020-2023), and carried out in partnership with EDF R&D, the Innovation Sociology Center at Ecole des Mines de Paris, and CIRED (International Center for Research on the Environment and Development). It is centered on Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs).

EPCs play an increasing guidance role in the renovation sector (prioritization of buildings to renovate, conditioning of subsidies, modeling of energy demand, and in the future, opposability), to which PREMOCLASSE contributes interdisciplinary knowledge (sociology, economics, technical economics for buildings):

– PREMOCLASSE studies the effects of EPCs on the field, the practical conditions for implementing them, and their role in developing public policies. In particular, it monitors the current EPC reform, its contribution to transforming sustainable building regulations, and its impact on property markets and assessment activities.

– PREMOCLASSE enriches the Res-IRF energy prospective model by introducing work packages into jumps between EPC categories that can be used to estimate the future evolution of the building stock.

– PREMOCLASSE proposes scenarios of the evolution in heating demand in the French residential sector at the 2050 horizon.
