The Chair in Prospective Modeling for Sustainable Development (MPDD) at Mines Paris – PSL will be present at COP28, organized in the United Arab Emirates in Dubai.
The booth of the Chair is located in part 44 of the blue zone at COP28. This booth is shared with the International Research Center on Environment and Development (CIRED), the National School of Mines in Paris, and ParisTech.
Side Event UNFCCC
In the context of COP28, the Chair is also participating in the UNFCCC Side Event on December 8, 2023, from 18:30 to 20:00, at the ‘UNFCCC Pavillon SE Room 3’. The theme of the conference is « Global energy transition and local realities: vulnerabilities, development, mitigation, trade-offs ».
This Side Event, organized by the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change), is an parallel event to COP28. Its purpose is to problematize and highlight a major aspect of the themes addressed during COP28.
The Side Event will be broadcast on the UN Climate Change (UNFCCC) YouTube channel (link) and will be available on the UNFCCC website (link).
This conference will address the challenges of an effective and equitable transition and will propose elements for a research agenda in the years to come. It will focus particularly on energy, although other aspects of the transition will also be discussed, as well as the issue of cooperation in a world where regions and countries have vastly different research capacities.
Several speakers will take the floor: Edi ASSOUMOU (CMA Mines Paris – PSL, France), Charlène BARNET (CMA Mines Paris – PSL, France), Mohamadou FADEL DIOP (OXFAM, Senegal), Amit GARG (IIMA, India), Franck LECOCQ (CIRED, France), and Joana PORTUGAL (COPPE-UFRJ, Brazil).
Charlène BARNET, a TTI.5 PhD Student, was present on-site. “The Side Event was an opportunity for me to discuss the opportunities and obstacles to energy transition in the countries of North Africa and the Middle East, a theme at the core of my thesis. I also had the chance to attend numerous presentations addressing key issues for my research and to meet representatives from various laboratories and institutions operating in the region.”
The Chair in Prospective Modeling for Sustainable Development at Mines Paris – PSL was established in 2008 at the initiative of Nadia MAÏZI, Director of The Transition Institute 1.5 and CMA Mines Paris – PSL, and Jean-Charles HOURCADE from École des Ponts ParisTech. The Chair is coordinated by Sandrine SELOSSE, research fellow at CMA Mines Paris – PSL.
