The Transition Institute 1.5 would like to congratulate Clément CABOT, a PhD student at CERNA Mines Paris – PSL and accredited TTI.5, for his successful thesis defense on November 8, 2023, titled : « Economic considerations on the demand-side of electricity markets in a context of energy transition ».
« My thesis addresses the challenges posed by the low-carbon transition of the electricity sector, particularly in managing the variability of renewable energies. The efforts towards electrification and reindustrialization present an opportunity for more active participation from the demand side, facilitated by new technologies such as smart meters or electric vehicles. Therefore, my thesis aims to examine the role that demand-side flexibilities can play and explore various methods of mobilizing them. »
The PhD supervisors are François LÉVÊQUE (CERNA Mines Paris – PSL) and Manuel VILLAVICENCIO (Deloitte Economic Advisory ).
Clément CABOT conducted his thesis in collaboration with the company Deloitte and plans to remain in the ‘Economic Advisory‘ team to continue his work in economic analysis and modeling applied to the challenges of energy transition. The Transition Institute 1.5 wishes him a successful professional journey.
In September 2023, Clément CABOT authored the first Working Paper TTI.5, titled : « The demand-side flexibility in liberalised power market: a review of current market design and objectives » (link).
He is the first PhD student accredited TTI.5 to successfully complete the program offered by The Transition Institute 1.5.
“I greatly appreciated the TTI.5 journey, which provided the opportunity to meet people from various academic backgrounds. This offers perspective on our work and ideally will enrich our approaches in the long term. Personally, being in the final stages of my thesis at the time of the initiative’s creation, I had few opportunities to fully engage in this movement. However, I highly value it, and my thesis advisor strongly encouraged my participation.”
